South Thames Retrieval Service
South Thames Retrieval Service (STRS) is a children's acute transport service which specialises in the inter-hospital transfer of critically ill children in London (south of the River Thames). We operate from the paediatric intensive care unit of the Evelina Children's Hospital, located at St Thomas' Hospital.
What we do
We deploy a skilled paediatric intensive care team to assist in the treatment of critically ill children, both before and during transfer to intensive care.
We offer a 24 hour referral phone line for advice to clinicians on potential critical care transfers, liaison with sub-specialists and transport within one service. We coordinate admissions to paediatric intensive care units (PICU) within South London or to an out of region PICU if no beds are available in local units.
We are happy to offer advice to clinicians regarding the management of any acutely ill child, but cannot assist in non-acute inter-hospital transfers.
